Securing £ 9.6 million of the Getting Building Fund , the SWLEP has been instrumental in three major projects assisting the area :
i ) The Carriage Works in Swindon , enabling creation of The Workshed and refurbishment of two of the units for the University of Bath ’ s Innovation Centre for Applied Sustainable Technologies and digital media facility that will be used by Create Studios .
ii ) Phase 2 of the Porton Science Park with the development of the Collaborative Innovation Centre which opened in June this year . It was designed to facilitate greater collaboration between academia and the health and life sciences and defence technology sectors .
iii ) BCC in Chippenham which opened in May 2022 . The UK ’ s first business-led cyber centre which also offers co-working business , conference and events facility .
Supporting local businesses through economic shocks including offering Small Business Recovery Grants to the many Salisbury businesses adversely affected by the Novichok incident in 2018 .
Business engagement in many varied ways . Conferences and events held across Swindon and Wiltshire , as well as extremely successfully online through the COVID-19 pandemic , which showcase the vibrancy of our economy . In 2023 , we will be holding an exciting Business Festival , which will showcase the plethora of businesses within Swindon and Wiltshire and the surrounding area and provide business partnership and contract opportunities .
The Swindon and Wiltshire Growth Hub has been supporting business start-up and scale-up businesses for almost 10 years as well as offering a wide range of specialist support and events on topics including finance , low carbon , cyber security and digital marketing . Throughout the pandemic we worked closely with both of our local authority partners to ensure our business community had access to advice and support even if they were not eligible for the national financial support schemes .
Job creation . SWLEP is passionate about enabling the infrastructure to create the skills and talent needed to support employers in our area and to create jobs and routes to work . This is done through the work of our Skills and Talent Subgroup and top-performing Careers Hub with Enterprise Advisers working with businesses and schools .
