Dave Southby of Dave Southby Financial Planning has just celebrated two years in business . As a partner with St James ’ Place , Dave helps individuals and business owners manage and plan their finances . He works specifically with those based in Swindon , Chippenham , Malmesbury and Marlborough and anywhere in between .

One of my personal goals for my relatively new business in 2023 is to get out and meet more people , and to increase my business and my network of contacts .

When I made the decision to ‘ go it alone ’ and move away from my previous role within the automotive industry , it was the fulfilment of a huge personal goal for me . I ’ d always wanted to run my own business one day .

Today , I ’ m actually doing it and loving it . I ’ m sure many people can resonate with that . I love what I do , I love meeting my clients and helping them achieve their financial goals whatever they may be .

Looking back I realise I was actually entrepreneurial from a very young age and I think that came from having parents who were also entrepreneurial too . Somehow you absorb that experience .

When I was a teenager , at one time , I had four part-time jobs as I liked having my own money and later this overtook any desire to go to university or into higher education . I finally worked within the

automotive industry , a time which I thoroughly enjoyed , and this was where I began to realise that helping people with financial decisions was my niche . It ’ s my passion and it ’ s now my mission .

The one thing I ’ ve learned in the last two years and it was key to success in my previous role too – it ’ s all about relationships . It ’ s about building relationships with clients and key business contacts . It ’ s about being open to new contacts and new business experiences .

Business also must be more for me , I take sustainability seriously and already have a partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain . I ’ m also looking to support a local charity this year as well as my local football team ( I do love my sport ). At home I ’ m also looking forward to my wedding to my fiancé Bex later this year !
