Swindon ’ s Acorn Press which has been in business for over 40 years has invested in the next stage of its evolution .
Following a management buyout , a year ago the printing firm has invested in new binding and flatbed printer technology to diversify the business it can attract .
Acorn has installed a Ricoh flatbed inkjet press , Vivid Veloblade cutting table and Muller Martini PUR binder .
Simon Evers , Managing Director , said , “ It ’ s no longer all about litho printing . We have always done a certain amount of large format printing , and we were getting a lot of enquiries . Those inquiries led to some £ 25,000 of business being put out to the trade each month , so it was a no brainer to invest .”
The new equipment gives Acorn the capability to print on wood and metal as well as produce large format work . The new technology can also process colour for needs such as double-sided window graphics at up to 1,800 digital pixel images .
Ross Peart , Sales Director , added , “ It ’ s great to be able to add new strings to our bow . We are a full-service printer and want to work with more clients as an outsourced marketing department , supporting with all a customer ’ s printing needs from business cards to roller banners , exhibition stands , mailings and signage .”

Acorn Press has a wide customer base working with travel firms , publishers , charities , universities and colleges , premier league football clubs and fine art companies . It even prints the magazine you ’ re reading .
Acorn Press is an ethical printer with ISO 14001 certification and the environmental aspect of printing is important to the company . It uses recycled or sustainable FSC papers , vegetable-based inks , mailings that use potato starch poly and it recycles all its plates and waste paper .
