How is the BCC funded ? As part of the SWLEP ’ s successful application for £ 9.7 million in capital grants from the Getting Building Fund ( GBF ) in August 2020 , £ 3.7 million was allocated to the Business Cyber Centre .
The GBF was a £ 900 million fund announced by central Government in response to Covid-19 and the funds were designed to boost economic growth which has suffered during the pandemic . In particular , the funds will deliver key science and innovation projects in the cyber , life sciences , environmental and digital technologies sectors , bringing together public and private sector investment over the next two years .
SWLEP Chair , Paul Moorby , said , “ Working with our key strategic partners we will seek to build upon the existing ecosystem and cyber community to create opportunities for SMEs and cyber professionals . As Chair , I am delighted that this project has been funded by the Department of Business , Energy and Industrial Strategy ( BEIS ) and that SWLEP is working closely with the Department for Digital , Culture , Media & Sport ( DCMS ) and other central Government departments and organisations such as the National Cyber Security Centre ( NCSC ) to maximise this investment in the local economy and within the Western Gateway . We would also like to thank our corporate partners , Nationwide Building Society and Zurich Insurance based in Swindon for their ongoing commitment to this exciting project .”
