Festival of Tomorrow returns to Swindon

Swindon ’ s Festival of Tomorrow is set to return in February , exploring the science , technology and research that will help to shape our future world . The hybrid event , taking place physically as well as online , will be held throughout February , culminating in a two-day inperson event on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th February at the Deanery CE Academy in Wichelstowe during half term .
With cutting edge exhibitors , hands-on science , talks , shows and workshops , people of all ages and backgrounds will be able to explore the science and technologies of the future in a fun an inspiring way , whilst getting unique insights into the advances of real scientists , engineers and researchers .
According to the organisers , the Festival of Tomorrow is an action-packed exploration of the wonders of science , technology and research to share new discoveries and help choose the future we want to see , sharing the knowledge and research which will shape the future of the World .
The event , which includes an exciting programme for schools alongside community events , seeks to build on the prominence of scientists fuelled by the Covid-19 pandemic .
Dr Rod Hebden , Founder and Director of the Festival , said ,“ Covid really has brought to the forefront of our minds how much we depend on science and the work our scientists and researchers do .
“ Young people are seeing first-hand how science can help them make a difference to the world , whether developing vaccines or tackling climate change . Living through the pandemic has really helped to humanise science and increase our trust in the scientists .”

The main business sponsors for the festival include Swindon-based UK Research and Innovation ( UKRI ), Intel and the UK Space Agency whose headquarters are also in Swindon .
One of the big attractions will be the appearance of Neville and Sally Hollingworth from Swindon who recently discovered the ‘ Mammoth Graveyard ’ at Cerney Wick .
