SWLEP Annual Conference & Expo - a ' virtual ' success !

On Thursday 7th October 2021 the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership ( SWLEP ) held its first digital conference and expo Engage , Evolve , Go ! Over 290 virtual delegates joined online with attendance from local , national and international guests with some from as far away as Belgium , Ireland , the Ivory Coast and Nigeria . The conference was an opportunity to showcase the wealth of businesses , skills and opportunities in Swindon and Wiltshire and to inspire future growth for our area .
SWLEP made a conscious decision to hold the event virtually not just for Covid reasons , but to achieve its aims of becoming greener and focussing on the carbon savings . Based on the assumption of the average guest travelling 20 miles to get to any face-toface conference , it was estimated that they would have emitted 2.1 tonnes of CO2e . The equivalent of boiling a kettle for 140,000 cups of tea .
Paddy Bradley , SWLEP Chief Executive Officer , said , “ The event was designed to be more accessible than ever , and we achieved that hosting guests from Europe and Africa as part of the day , a SWLEP conference first . Attendees were also highly engaged with the event ’ s content spending an average time of 3 hours and 4 minutes with us . I thank all of my team and our guest speakers for their involvement in making the day such a success .”
At the event delegates were inspired by award winning guest speakers Dr Nicola Millard , Principal Innovation Partner at BT and Jim Lawless , best-selling author of Taming Tigers : Do Things You Never Thought You Could .
Dr Nicola Millard held a positive , peoplecentred espresso shot of innovation and future strategy , encouraging us all to think about the current business landscape and how it ' s changing and evolving .
Jim Lawless is an architect of change having set himself challenging goals such as becoming a winning jockey in less that 12 months to test his own theories for success . Jim inspired the audience to take the leap to Engage , Evolve , Go !
Throughout the day there was also the opportunity to attend a number of sessions providing key skills and top tips to get your business in shape for growth . The workshops were held by local businesses and organisations for local businesspeople
and included topics such as cyber security , cashflow , how to attract the perfect customer , going green , intrapreneurship and life after Brexit .
One of the benefits of hosting the event online is that all the sessions were recorded and can be watched on catch up via the SWLEP ’ s Swindon and Wiltshire Growth Hub YouTube channel . If you didn ’ t get the opportunity to attend on the day , you can browse the sessions online and watch those that take your fancy .
