Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology on track to open this autumn

Work on the Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology ( IoT ) is progressing well , with it looking likely that students will be able to study there from September 2021 .
Renovations are currently being made to transform two existing buildings on the North Star Campus , which include the iconic Pegasus Tower and the Engineering centre . Both areas will have a state-ofthe-art makeover that will completely renovate the external and internal facilities , providing high-quality teaching , learning and real working environments to reflect industry standards .
While the construction work is being carried out , the building site is currently covered with scaffolding to provide support for the tradesmen working on the outside structure .
Chris Baish , Managing Director of the IoT , said , “ We ’ re extremely pleased with progress towards making the Swindon and Wiltshire IoT a reality , both on-site and behind the scenes .
“ This is a big deal in terms of creating opportunities for students and employers in Swindon and the surrounding area , so I ’ m pleased to report that we ’ re on track to start courses from September onwards .
“ The site at the North Star campus is undergoing a major refurbishment as we speak , bringing it right up to date with industry-standard facilities including cyber labs and media suites that have been

Wiltshire College & University Centre has been named as a national finalist in the FE Week and AELP Annual Apprenticeship Conference Awards 2021 . developed with our employer and university partners . It ’ s really exciting to see it all coming together on site , and we can ’ t wait to be able to welcome students in the autumn .”
The IoT will be a huge benefit to Swindon and the region with this employer-led facility as it responds to business needs , identifying current skills gaps and supporting future developments in a region where significant growth is expected in technology-based sectors .
Chris added , “ In the meantime , we ’ re keen to hear from businesses in the area that are looking to recruit new starters or upskill existing staff across a range of technical areas and apprenticeships , including digital , cyber-security , engineering , creative media and health and science . The Awards were established in 2017 as a joint project by Further Education ( FE ) Week and the AELP ( Association of Employment and Learning Providers ).
The announcement that the College had been shortlisted for Business and Administration Apprenticeship Provider of the Year was made at a virtual presentation hosted by FE News at the end of April .
Judges said they had been impressed at the quantity and calibre of applications received .
Alex Clancy , Head of Business Development at Wiltshire College , said , “ The College has worked extremely hard over the past few years to place our employers and their learners at the heart of our delivery .
“ There are more than 2,000 registered apprenticeship training providers across the UK and there were over 350 applications to the awards , so to be selected as a national finalist in that category makes me really proud of the team and the work we are all doing to support our employers ’ and learners ’ needs .”
The College offers a range of Business Management , HR and Project Management apprenticeships and bespoke programmes for employers such as Avon and
Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service . It currently has more than 500 learners undertaking qualifications in management , administration and entrepreneurship .
All finalists have been invited to an award ’ s gala dinner at the ICC in Birmingham on Thursday 8th July where the winners will be announced .
