Seven signs you need a new office There are a number of reasons a business owner might be looking for a new office space. Most of the time it’s because of a contract that’s due to expire, changing business needs, lack of facilities or a bad location. So if you identify with any of the points on this list, it’s probably time to consider placing roots elsewhere. 1. You want to attract the best talent Your office says a lot about you and your company, that’s why top companies are often recognised for their outstanding workspace. The brightest and best can be choosy and will want to know that they are going to be working in comfortable and appealing surroundings, so if you’re looking to employ the best people, make sure you’re providing the best workspace. 2. You’re at maximum capacity Cramming increasing numbers of staff into a stuffy and overcrowded workspace will only reduce productivity and morale. Don’t allow your working surroundings to limit your potential for growth. Flexible and temporary solutions may be the solution but don’t let space cramp your style 3. You don’t have the appropriate facilities If your business has grown or changed and the current premises don’t offer what you need, it may be time to look elsewhere. Perhaps there aren’t enough parking spaces or the site doesn’t have meeting facilities or maybe you’re simply being swamped by extension cables due to a severe lack of power points. Whatever the reason, if your office facilities aren’t up to scratch, it might be time to pack up and move on. 4. Location, location, location Moving to a better location will allow you to bring your products or services to the people that need them, rather than expecting them to come to you. If your clients and customers complain that you are hard to find and difficult to get to it may be time for a change. 5. Your team is unhappy Evidence suggests that surroundings have a major impact on productivity and creativity in the workplace. Unhappy employees are unproductive employees, so it is important that all factors are considered including office temperature, colour schemes, space and facilities. 6. Cost concerns Changes in technology or market conditions can lead to unplanned expenditure. In order to compensate for the additional expense, you might need to drastically reduce your overheads, especially if you’re a small business. Reducing rent and utility costs by moving to a more affordable office can keep you in the black and overcome cash flow problems. 7. Change is good A change in your environment is sometimes reason enough to want a new office. Working in a new environment is restorative and can make a huge impact on the efficiency of both you and your employees. Being open to change and adapting to it can make you more flexible and thus improve your outlook on life and your career. In turn this change of character and environment can open new doors and opportunities for your business to grow. Is your office easy to get to and great to work from?
