Bower & Bailey in the community Supporting the Armed Forces Bower & Bailey Solicitors and 3PB Barristers marked Armed Forces Day on 29th June by signing the Armed Forces Covenant. Head of the Armed Forces Department, Partner Sarah Dureau and Dave Snook, Chambers’ Practice Director representing Simon Astill the CEO of 3PB, were joined by Councillor Nick Leverton, the recently appointed Armed Forces Champion for West Oxfordshire District Council and Flight Sergeant Jane Corban, Community Support from RAF Brize Norton when they made this pledge. The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly. The covenant focusses on helping members of the armed forces community have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen – and not to be disadvantaged by their service. Many public and private organisations have confirmed their commitment to support the Service Community by signing the Corporate Covenant. Bower & Bailey’s promises included maintaining a specialist Armed Forces Department, providing free legal clinics at RAF Brize Norton and on other bases around Oxfordshire and Wiltshire where they have four offices (in Banbury, Oxford, Swindon and Witney), to support the employment of veterans and services spouses and to get involved in armed forces charities. 3PB made similar commitments and the two legal organisations also recognised the value of them cooperating closely with each other to provide a truly expert legal service to service personnel and their families. The signing was also attended by other members of Bower and Bailey, RAF Brize Norton and Barristers from 3PB. Sarah Dureau, said, “As a veteran myself, I am so pleased that Bower & Bailey have marked their commitment to military personnel and their families by signing the Covenant.” “We set up the Armed Forces Department five years ago and wanted to sign the Covenant when it was absolutely the right time, which we felt was this year now that the Department is so established” “Linking up with 3PB to sign the Covenant at the same time just seemed right when we both put so much effort in to making our service for military personnel the best we can.” Helping Swindon get creative! Bower & Bailey recently backed local artists looking to create a mural in central Swindon. The firm provided a financial investment to support the ‘My Town, My World’ community-led project. The artwork, which completed at the beginning of July, and can be seen at Regent Close, beside the Wyvern Theatre, was a partnership between two local artists, Martin Travers and Peter Crowdy, in collaboration with inSwindon BID, Swindon Borough Council and Artsite. Daniel Hannam, Partner, Bower & Bailey Solicitors said, “This mural will certainly enhance Regent Close and brighten up the town centre. It’s fabulous to see such great artwork on our doorstep.” Simon Smith, Managing Partner, Bower & Bailey Solicitors added, “The mural is a positive step for Swindon. I am really pleased to be able to join with InSwindon and Swindon Borough Council in supporting this exciting initiative.” Pictured above from left to right: Councillor Dale Heenan, Artist Martin Travers, inSwindon BID CEO Di Powell, inSwindon BID Business Development Manager Rachael Youd, Daniel Hannam, Partner, Bower & Bailey Solicitors, Jane Stewart Centre Manager Brunel Shopping Centre, Artist Peter Cowdy, Sally Taylor from Artiste.
