POSITIVE BUSINESS
Could you be a trustee
for Prospect Hospice?
Prospect Hospice has been providing end-
of-life care to people with life-limiting or
terminal illness in Swindon and north east
Wiltshire for nearly 40 years.

volunteers and inspirational staff...”

They help people cope with everything that
this would affect including their physical,
emotional and social needs. Prospect
Hospice prides itself on the clinical services
that do this, but also the non-clinical
services including reaching out to families
and carers.
The charity is undergoing a time of
positive change and is currently recruiting
a Chair of their trustee board. The board of
trustees is responsible for the management
and administration of the charity.
“Trustees are the people in charge of
a charity. They help to make the UK the
sixth-most giving country in the world. They
play a vital role, volunteering their time
and working together to make important
decisions about the charity’s work.” (Trustee
Week 2018)
The role is suitable for someone with
proven leadership skills to guide Prospect
Hospice and its board to achieve its aims
and priorities. Someone with experience of
chairing meetings and managing a board or
similar group, would be ideal.
David Barrand, Vice Chair, Prospect
Hospice said, “I have been on the Prospect
Hospice Board of Trustees for 8 years and I
am continually impressed by the professional
yet caring environment that Prospect
Hospice provides. I’ve had a number of close
friends and relatives who have benefited
from the care there, so being Vice Chair is a
great way for me, as a local resident to give
back to my local hospice and community.
By joining us as Chair of our Board you will
enable us to develop as an organisation
and continue to improve our services.
“We’re looking for someone who has strong
leadership skills, but also someone who is
keen to learn about our hospice and has the
confidence to lead a board of trustee’s with a
wide array of skills and experience”.

DRAGON AND EAGLE
FIRED-UP FOR INNER FLAME
Swindon-based charity Inner Flame is gearing up for its annual
Young Champions event which this year sees two very special
guests in attendance.
Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards and Dragons’
Den star Piers Linney will be taking part in
the fundraiser on Friday 26th April at the
DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Swindon.
Inner Flame, based in Rodbourne, assists
unemployed, vulnerable young people aged
16 to 25 in developing the skills required to
live healthy, independent lives and move
closer towards work.
Each year the charity brings together local
businesses and organisations to celebrate a
selection of young people Inner Flame has
worked with who have overcome adversities
and achieved great feats.
The charity is seeking a headline
sponsor for the event which includes live
entertainment, a three-course meal, charity
auction and a raffle.
Piers Linney is the event’s guest speaker.
Having starred in series such as The Secret
Millionaire and Dragons’ Den, Piers is a
self-made millionaire from humble roots
in Stoke- on-Trent who has become a
recognised champion of entrepreneurship,
technology and SMEs.
Inner Flame CEO, Gail McKay said,
“It’s incredibly important that we take
time to recognise the achievements of the
young people in our community. The vast

majority of individuals we work with have
had to overcome very unique challenges,
so we believe it’s imperative that we have
a designated occasion to celebrate their
successes.”
“The past 12 to 18 months have been
particularly tough for us as a small charity.
Events like this are vital as we rely on the
support of businesses to continue operating.
Attending or sponsoring Young Champions is
a brilliant way for local companies to support
the charity whilst showing recognition for
Swindon’s young achievers.”
Having been the guest speaker at Young
Champions in 2018, Eddie Edwards made
a commitment to continue to support the
charity.
He added, “To have the opportunity
to hear such inspirational stories from
young people having overcome their own
challenges to succeed is brilliant, and I think
it’s a great thing to bring local businesses
together to recognise these individuals.”
