Meet Small Biz Saturday ‘ s Emma Boatman , director of Boatman Admin Services
It ’ s currently a double celebration for the pair with John celebrating 25 years in financial services and Boatman Admin Services being recognised in the national campaign Small Business Saturday , aimed at highlighting the many and varied small businesses in existence in the UK .
Calne-based Boatman Admin Services is run by Emma and John Boatman . Emma heads up the admin side of the business and her husband also runs a successful independent advisory business , Boatman Financial Ltd .

It encourages consumers to support small businesses in their communities and is based around one day in the year when events up and down the country will be taking place . This year it will take place on Saturday December 1 .
Tell us more about your business Boatman Admin Services offers virtual admin services , social media management and event organisation . A lot of our clients use our services to free themselves of their day-to-day routine , giving them more time to concentrate on the bigger picture . A big part of our business is about helping other small businesses grow and we have found that those who work with us see us as an investment , not an expense . I ’ ve even been labelled the “ admin fairy ”!
The support we offer is flexible and cost-effective allowing you to dip into our services when you need them . We are often chosen by companies who might not want the commitment of an in-house or permanent resource .
As a small business we understand the pressures that business are under and this is why we can relate to our clients .
How did it feel to be selected for the Small Business Saturday campaign ?
Three years ago , I never thought I ’ d have my own business , let alone be selected as part of the Small Biz 100 . It ’ s great that our company now has nationwide recognition .
What have you got out of taking part so far ?
As part of the campaign , 100 small business nationally are profiled on each of the 100 days running up to Small Business Saturday . Our day was Sunday , September 2 . It can be

difficult to ‘ sell yourself ’ when you don ’ t have a product that people can actually see but we had a great day of social media promotion which generated a lot of interaction , interest and a couple of new clients signing up for some admin assistance .
We also went to London on September 13 for a party with the other Small Biz 100 2018 businesses . This was an amazing opportunity to meet many of the other winners . There was a great positive atmosphere amongst the attendees . We were really looked after by the # smallbiz100 team .
What ’ s next for Boatman Admin Services ?
We ’ ve just been shortlisted in the South West region of the 2018 VA ( Virtual Assistant ) of the Year Awards . We can ’ t wait to find out if we ’ re through to the next round !

CMD Recruitment celebrated its 14th anniversary by causing a media stir with over 500 servings of cake . Dan Barfoot , tells us how .
As the largest independent recruiter in Wiltshire , we need a lot of cake to celebrate an occasion , so I ordered an extremely large cake for our 14th anniversary party . This summer we cut , delivered and most importantly ate the largest cake we had ever seen .
Earlier this year I sat with the marketing team planning the best way to celebrate the company ’ s birthday . We knew that the celebration had to have a wow-factor and showcase how much CMD has grown in 14 years . We decided a giant cake would be a great way to show our appreciation to the clients and candidates we ’ ve worked with over the years . We contacted award-winning cake makers Peboryon who developed a design of a nine-piece jigsaw cake , highlighting each of the sectors we recruit for .
