CELEBRATING FIVE YEARS OF THE BUSINESS EXCHANGE

The Business Exchange turns five

This issue marks five years since The Business Exchange( TBE) was incorporated in August 2013 with the first magazine being published in September of the same year.
The look, feel and content of the magazine has evolved since the first issue was published, listening to the needs of our readers, advertisers and design experts, but our core values have remained.
We’ re called The Business Exchange because we want a reciprocal relationship with our readers and advertisers. We felt this was missing from the approach of local media companies and set out to truly support business in
Swindon and Wiltshire, celebrating their successes and creating a community of collaboration.
Owner and managing editor of The Business Exchange, Anita Jaynes said:“ The August / September magazine is the 38th magazine I have published since setting up the business. I’ ve now produced more editions of The Business Exchange in Swindon & Wiltshire than my current age!
“ I’ m proud of where the business
is now, but there is so much more that I want to achieve. The last two years has seen huge growth for the company with the launch of the Bath & Somerset edition in 2016 and our first awards initiative in 2018- The Techies, growing our offering even further. My plan is to build on the foundations I have built so far and use the company’ s business intelligence to develop into other areas that complement our offering. One thing that’ s key
for me is remaining hyper-local and giving to the region’ s economy by ensuring all of the services and people we work with are local. The magazine is printed in Swindon by Acorn Press, our IT is managed by Systemagic in Bradford on Avon, our phonelines are managed by Excalibur Communications and our accountant is AMS- both based in Swindon. We have so many fantastic companies in our area, why venture elsewhere for services?’

As well as writing for TBE Fiona runs her own business Fiona Scott Media Consultancy offering a range of media services including PR and video production. Nick Batten, Reporter
Nick is the youngest member of the TBE team. He’ s been working with us since 2016 after a chance introduction through Anita’ s Dad.
Before working as a freelancer for The Business Exchange Nick worked as a reporter for global business magazine Campaign, owned by Haymarket Media Group.
Nick likes to get his running shoes on and recently ran the Lacock Half Marathon. He’ s now in training to race in the 2019 Bath Half Marathon. We’ re looking forward to cheering Nick on from the TBE cheering station!
Sian Swift, Business Development Manager
Sian is the queen of networking. If you haven’ t met her yet, we’ re sure you’ ll run into her at one of the many events she attends flying the flag for TBE.
She’ s a huge Welsh Rugby and Bath Rugby fan and is probably one of the biggest female fans of the sport you will ever meet. In the late 90s Sian worked as a reporter for the BBC’ s Rugby Special TV programme, commentating and interviewing various rugby personalities.
When Sian’ s not representing The Business Exchange she’ s selling beer for local brewery The Three Daggers or organising events for her Bath Exiles Welsh Society- if you’ re Welsh and live locally drop her a line for details of the next social.
Dale Wyatt, Juicy Designs, Designer of brand TBE
Dale has worked on TBE since the third issue, designing the logo, brand identity and user journey. He has also created the branding for other TBE initiatives including Start-up September and The Techies Awards.
Dale is a stickler for detail and is always challenging us to make The Business Exchange the best it can be. When he’ s not in front of his Mac, Dale can be found exploring the unknown, be it a footpath, a climb up a mountain or a trip underground. He always wants to find out what’ s round the next corner. And if he’ s not exploring, he’ ll be tinkering with his old Land Rovers.
Steve Munson, Studio Creative Services, TBE Production
Steve has also been working on the production of The Business Exchange since the third edition, after a chance meeting at a networking event promoting his and Dale’ s experience and how they could improve the magazine design. After a few meetings they got to work developing TBE into the product it is today.
Steve setup Studio Creative Services after years of hands on experience working in the print industry and as the production manager for a large creative agency, which is where he met Dale. Finding some of the weird and wonderful briefs, and subsequent solutions dreamt up by Dale’ s creative team, sometimes attracted unaffordable outsourced costs, Steve started Studio to deliver the solutions required cost effectively.
Over a decade on, Studio Creative Services is not only the go to company for unusual requirements, but offers a full range of creative solutions including design, print production, large format, signage and branded merchandise. Steve created the 12 unique awards for the lucky winners of our recent Techie Awards.
When not in the studio he’ ll be found on the race track alongside his 10 year old son Samuel who’ s currently chasing his dream of becoming the Cool Fab UK Mini Moto Rookie Champion and is doing exceptionally well, currently in 2nd position in the championship.
