POSITIVE BUSINESS

Business against Poverty Member profile: B20 Ltd

Business against Poverty( BaP) is a local community of business people who care about the issues of poverty and ethical standards. They are taking action through their charity People against Poverty, based in Trowbridge. Each edition of TBE we profile one of their members. This edition we profile B20 Ltd.
B20 is an accountancy practice based in Melksham, run by husband and wife team Colin and Caroline Skull. As well as being members of the charity, Colin is a trustee and works tirelessly to ensure BaP accounts are up to date and meet with the objectives of the Charities Commission regulations. Colin also prepares the end of year accounts ready for auditing and finally filing at Companies House.
BaP met with Colin to find out more about his business philosophy.
What motivates you? Every business records their information in different ways and I have the experience to tailor reports to their specific needs, but I like to keep it straightforward and say what is required. So being involved in clients businesses and assisting with the day to day running and future growth is my interest as I can watch the business develop. relationships with clients and staff and retaining them over many years – we still act for clients from when B20 started and still receive birthday cards from staff from over 16 years ago. As in life, treat people how you would like to be treated. Be professional and an equitable employer.
Who do you admire most? A previous MD who ran a company in an equitable way and clients who grow their businesses whilst building a successful, friendly team and act decisively to changing events.
What would be your advice to anyone wondering if their business could benefit from joining Business against Poverty? Join BaP. The funds go to support the charity and its project work. It puts you in contact with likeminded business people. BaP assists its members with excellent events and online resources.
