BATH’S TOP 100 BUSINESSES Building homes and futures Housing association and house-builder Curo is one of Bath’s biggest employers - with more than 500 colleagues - and the city’s only organisation to make the prestigious Sunday Times’ national list of 100 Best Not-for-Profit Organisations to work for. “We’re always looking for land, opportunities and partnerships that will enable us to deliver the homes our region needs” With over 25,000 customers, Curo owns and manages more than 13,000 properties across the South West and is building hundreds of new homes every year for rent and sale. The organisation reinvests its surpluses from commercial activities into delivering new affordable homes. Gerraint Oakley, managing director of Curo’s house-building business, explained: “We have no paid shareholders; instead of paying out dividends, we reinvest our profits to deliver our social mission - building the affordable homes our region needs. “This is the social purpose at the heart of our organisation and our commercial house-building business enables us to deliver it. For every two homes we sell privately we’re able to provide at least one affordable home, creating much-needed new housing for local families.” Curo’s turnover in the 2017/18 financial year was £99m and the organisation invested £17.1m in the delivery of 118 new affordable homes across the South West. Careers at Curo Curo’s house-building business offers a wide range of roles, from site managers, design and planning specialists, to trades like bricklaying and carpentry and professions like surveying and finance. Gerraint said: “We’re helping to create a future for thousands of customers across the South West – building new homes, investing in our region, empowering people and communities to grow and creating employment opportunities.
