Bath-based firm Novia Financial has launched its own charitable foundation to provide support for projects benefitting the people of Bath and the surrounding area .
The aim is for staff to raise money for the foundation – governed by a board of trustees – and then use that funding for suitable initiatives in the area . Later it ’ s hoped funding can also be used for projects further afield .
A foundation seemed the right path for the Novia team who wanted to give back to the community by supporting the many already-established charities and good works being carried out in and around the city . Pippa Russell , head of corporate
communications , said : “ We are really thrilled to be able to support such a wide range of local projects . Bath is such a fantastic community with enormous engagement already from many other successful charities .
“ We very much look forward to working alongside these organisations as well as helping to efficiently channel the hugely successful fund-raising initiatives and volunteering work Novia Financial has already achieved over the ten years since it launched .”
To date the team , based from their office in Henry Street , Bath , have already raised funds through activities including ‘ guess the
time ’ for a colleague running the London Marathon , a Valentine ’ s Day cake bake as well as dress down days .
Novia Financial ’ s Pippa , added : “ We have got some exciting plans for broader reach fund raising initiatives which we hope to be able to announce in the coming weeks . The response from staff has been fantastic and we are really excited to roll this out to our local community .”
Novia Financial launched in January 2009 to provide a comprehensive wealth management service or ‘ full wrap platform ’ for financial advisers and their clients . It ’ s an independent company which prides itself on
POSITIVE BUSINESS

BATH HALF ANNOUNCES 2019 CHARITY PARTNERS

The Bath Half Marathon has announced its 2019 Lead Race Charity and local charity partner . British Heart Foundation ( BHF ) will be the event ’ s Lead Race Charity . Over the course of the next 12 months , it will help raise awareness and funds for the BHF ’ s life saving research into heart and circulatory disease .
The Bath Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK . It is also the largest charity fundraising event in the South West region , raising over £ 2.25 million for charity in 2017 alone . The average amount raised by individual fundraisers through JustGiving rose to £ 520 in 2017 , which ranks the Bath Half Marathon in the top three running events in the UK and the top race outside London for average per head fundraising .
“ Since 2000 , over £ 25 million pounds have been raised for charity from our event ,” said Kayley Waller , charity director at Running High Events . “ This year we chose the BHF as our lead charity because it is one that is personally close to our founding director ’ s heart , as Mel
Taylor ’ s father has benefited from life saving treatment following a series of serious heart problems for many years . It is also a charity that has been hugely popular with our runners . We are delighted to announce them as lead partners and look forward to helping them raise vital funds for heart research throughout the year .”
Heart and circulatory disease kills over 150,000 people in the UK each year , stealing them away from families and loved ones . Money raised through this partnership will help BHF researchers identify revolutionary new ways to prevent , diagnose and treat these devastating conditions .
Liam O ’ Reilly , Third Party Events Lead at BHF said “ Heart and circulatory disease is heartless . It can often strike without warning , tearing families apart in an instant , which is why we ’ re determined to do everything we can to beat it .
“ We urgently need more funds to help end the devastation it leaves behind and save lives , which is why we ’ re calling on runners to partake in the Bath Half Marathon . Every pound raised through the partnership will help fund vital research that will make a difference to the millions living with the terrible burden of heart and circulatory disease .” Around 650,000 people in the South West are currently living with heart and circulatory disease and it is responsible for around 14,750 deaths in the South West each year . With support from events like the Bath Half Marathon that partner with the BHF , the charity is one step closer to ending the devastation caused by heart and circulatory disease .
The chosen local charity partner for 2019 is Children ’ s Hospice South West ( CHSW ). The charity is looking for 100 runners to pledge their support and run the 2019 Bath Half on its behalf to help raise vital funds to care for children with life-threatening conditions . The Hospice , which has been in operation in the South West for 25 years , is aiming to raise £ 60,000 from the event .
“ We have been involved with the Bath Half Marathon since 2009 and each year we have seen the number of our charity place runners grow .” said Emily Mitchard , Community
Fundraiser at CHSW . “ We are very excited to be chosen as the Local Charity of the Year and hope that 2019 will be the best event yet !”
“ Just to put our target in context ; £ 50,000 could pay for heat , light and power for all three of our hospices for one year , but if we raise £ 75,000 that could pay for 24 hour doctor care in one hospice .”
Now in its 37th year , the Bath Half Marathon attracts 16,500 runners and 30,000 spectators . It ’ s one of the largest single day fundraising running events in the UK , with 130 official charity partners plus a further 380 other charities anticipated to be represented at the 2019 event .
The Bath Half Marathon 2019 takes place on Sunday March 17 .
