Voices from the Bath community on“ The year that was....”

Bill Vasilieff
CEO of Novia
2017 has been a somewhat surprisingly successful year for Novia Financial in the light of Brexit looming, with new business written so far this year now over £ 1bn and 35 % up on the same period last year. Stock markets are very strong with the FTSE 100 up 5 % this year and a staggering 20 % since the Brexit vote which is great news for businesses like ours. The net effect of all this is that assets under administration, on which we take a( small) percentage charge, have risen to £ 5.75bn from £ 4bn around Brexit vote day. All of this is good news and we continue to grow the business ahead of plan.
There is however some major new regulation coming in from Europe in January2018 which requires a significant amount of development work and this, along
with other projects, is keeping the team very busy.
Our other business, Novia Global, is still running at a loss which is as expected, but after two years doing the groundwork, we are just beginning to see the results with a number of initiatives starting to bear fruit, particularly a joint venture in South Africa and an unexpected distribution deal in the USA.
So good news all round although we shouldn’ t be complacent as right now the markets are favourable.

Group Marketing & Product Director
It’ s been an incredible twelve months for the MyLife Digital Group – which consists of Wood for Trees, a data analysis company specialising in Charity and Not for Profits, Insight, a sports performance analysis company, and Consentric, a secure platform offering three solutions for data capture, permissions processing and machine learning. A year ago, we moved from offices in Bradford on Avon, to our new home- Citizen House in Bath. We had 86 full and part-time staff then, but we have grown considerably to a team of 123 which is still expanding! 2017 saw us launch the Consentric Platform, gain ISO 27001 accreditation, rebrand PGIR to Insight, launch two new websites, on-board our first
Consentric Permissions client, add fourteen partners to our reseller and referral network and win Best Supplier of the Year Award, for Wood for Trees, at the Institute of Fundraising Awards.
The Consentric Platform was also accepted onto the G-Cloud 9 framework on the Digital Marketplace – the procurement service for the Public Sector, making MyLife Digital a Crown Commercial Services Supplier.
Wood for Trees also celebrated an anniversary, ten years of helping around 50 of the UK top charities with the analysis of their data bases to improve fundraising efforts to support good causes.
Our Insight sports analysts were instrumental in the Lions Tour and the 2017 World Rugby Under 20 Championship, Six Nations and the England Seniors tour of Argentina.
Across the group we have supported over 20 conferences, as keynote speakers and
exhibitors. We’ ve held breakout sessions and workshops on the incoming General Data Protection Regulation, Improving Fundraising, and Elite Sport Performance.
On a more personal note, our team have been fundraising for our Charity of the Year – Dorothy House and had numerous bake sales, Christmas Jumper Days and a 130-mile cycle ride around all the Dorothy House Shops raising around £ 2,500.
