Microsoft teams up for one-off webinar
This Summer we joined forces with the ACCA( Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and Microsoft to deliver a webinar on their Power BI software which is set to revolutionise the world of modern accounting.
Power BI is a suite of business analytics tools to analyse data and share insights. The Power BI dashboards provide a 360-degree view for business users with their most important metrics all in one place, updated in real time, and available on all of their devices.
The webinar gave accountants from across the UK and internationally the opportunity to learn more about the capabilities of the Power BI application. James Marshall, Microsoft Small and Medium Business Chief Technology Officer joined the conversation to discuss the latest updates and how to capture and harness data through the tool. Chris Downing our Business Intelligence Partner demonstrated how we are using this with our clients to add value to our service. Chris said:“ Microsoft BI is a fantastic way of collating data and visualising it to provide a greater insight into a business’ s finances.”
Chris was also invited to speak at the Accountex Show at ExCel in London where there was a lot of interest in the useful applications made possible by the software.
We’ ve strengthened our tax offering
Following our big win at the prestigious Tolley’ s Taxation Awards in 2016, where we were named‘ Best Tax Practice in a Regional Firm’ Milsted Langdon has been inundated with new tax work, both on the compliance and planning side of the practice.
We have appointed three new directors to further strengthen our tax offering. Leon Cane is our new international tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax specialist. Mike Bagg is the new personal tax and trust specialist. Julian Borley is our new VAT specialist, particularly experienced in property planning matters for charities and the not for profit sector. And Hannah Godding has joined the team as a tax manager dealing with personal and corporate tax matters incorporating employee share and Enterprise Management Incentive schemes( known as EMIs).
Are you prepared for Brexit? With Milsted Langdon’ s association with the MGI we are well placed to support any business fearing the worst or dealing with challenges created by Brexit. We have a network of overseas colleagues that can assist with any issues on a local level.
New international marketplace for business
Milsted Langdon has played an integral role in the formation of an international marketplace that highlights global merger and acquisition( M & A) opportunities.
The MGI Worldwide M & A Marketplace was founded by Milsted Langdon partner, Susannah Adams who leads our corporate finance team. It acts as a public forum where members can share clients’ merger and acquisition opportunities.
With some 5,000 independent accountants in over 250 locations around the world, the network is ideally placed to act as a conduit for international deals, which is why Milsted Langdon was keen to promote the new marketplace.
Roger Isaacs, MGI Worldwide’ s Vice Chairman and Milsted Langdon Forensic Partner, said:“ We are actively encouraging all of our MGI members dealing in M & A activity to post their opportunities on the M & A Marketplace so that we can help identify and assist businesses around the world who are looking to invest overseas.
“ It has already received a very positive response and we anticipate that it will help to facilitate a number of international M & As in the future.”
Roger also leads the MGI Worldwide Global Forensic Accountancy Practice Group, which has proven extremely successful in recent months assisting with a number of complex international cases, including acting in a commercial dispute between a US holding company and its UK subsidiary and advising international property portfolio holders in the UK and Cyprus.
“ The MGI M & A Marketplace is already showing a lot of potential and if the marketplace can even replicate some of the success that we have had from our other international groups, then we may well see some fantastic opportunities emerge for members and the businesses they represent,” added Roger.
