FROM PART-TIME SCHOOL ACCOUNTANT TO FULL-TIME ACCOUNTANCY EDUCATOR
White Horse Training’ s Marylee Wollaston talks us through her career path.
How long have you worked in accountancy and training?
I have worked in accountancy since 1997, when I worked part-time at the local school doing mainly admin with some accounts work. I enjoyed the accounts side of the job so decided to go to college to get some formal qualifications in September 2002.
I really enjoyed learning and gaining my qualification and was often found helping my fellow classmates. It was only after a comment from a fellow mum asking if I had considered teaching that prompted me to speak to my tutor about it.
I was offered a contract with a FE college in 2005. I moved to a full-time position in 2006 and have been working in training and teaching accountancy for several FE colleges, including setting up my own training provider with two other partners, ever since.
When did you join White Horse Training?
I joined White Horse Training as a full-time tutor in 2014 after I had done some 1-1 work for one of their apprentices who was struggling to pass a particularly difficult Financial Accounting exam.
What do you love most about your job? There are lots of things I love about my job, but the most rewarding part is being in the classroom, seeing very nervous trainees at the start of their accountancy training journey develop into confident, qualified and experienced employees that are an asset to themselves and their employers.
What courses do you offer? White Horse offers the Level 3 and 4 AAT Accountancy courses alongside the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship and the Level 4 Professional Accountant Apprenticeship.
