Children’ s Hospice in their 10th year
Did you know Children’ s Hospice South West’ s( CHSW) Charlton Farm is the only children’ s hospice available to families from Bath & Somerset that offers care 365 days a year, including respite, holistic care, emergency stays, a dedicated sibling service, end-of-life care and bereavement support? The North Somerset-based hospice opened its doors to families 10 years ago this year and currently supports 204 lifelimited children, 152 bereaved families and around 580 siblings.
CHSW is calling on businesses from Bath & Somerset to help mark the tenth birthday of Charlton Farm by getting involved with the charity.
Tom Annear, Head of Business Development and Marketing at Bathbased Epoch Wealth Management said,“ We’ ve been delighted to be involved with CHSW for a number of years. The support they provide to the region’ s terminally ill children is second to none and we’ ve been bowled over by their desire to help children with life-limiting conditions.”
On Monday June 12, Charlton Farm is opening its doors and hosting its triannual Business Breakfast, which includes a tour of the hospice, where you can see for yourselves why local families refer to Charlton Farm as a‘ lifeline’. One family described it as‘ a magical place that has changed our lives for the better.’
There are many ways in which your business can help make a difference to the lives of families who need Charlton Farm; whether it’ s through a charity of the year partnership or a one-off event. Take Monster Race; every year corporate teams take on the 5k or 10k muddy obstacle race for CHSW as a show of commitment to the charity and to the families it supports. BATH’ S FIRST SOAPBOX DERBY in aid Of Dorothy House
Bath’ s business community is challenged to join the‘ Soapbox Battle of Bath’, a new charity event designed to raise funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care. The event is taking place on Sunday July 9 in Victoria Park on the Three Acres pasture, just below the Royal Crescent.
The Soapbox Derby is a time trial for non-power assisted go-karts run over a grassy, inclined course. The karts will require a three-person team, with one person driving and two pushing. The run will be timed by event marshals and the organisers will make safety paramount.
Participants are encouraged to dress up their cars and themselves and bring friends, family and colleagues along to watch the battle of the soapboxes unfold. Prizes will be available for the best dressed team, most spectacular cornering and most entertaining run alongside, with trophies for the winning teams. The event should inspire some gentle rivalry between business competitors too, by putting them in a time trial against one another. Think car dealerships competing against one another, estate agents, hairdressers, retailers, hotels, law firms and more.
Supporters of the Soapbox Derby so far include, BA1 Hair( previously Artizan), Lansdown Mazda, The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa, Minuteman Press and The Business Exchange magazine. Entry is in advance and costs £ 300 per team of three people and entry closes on June 30. Children aged 7yrs + are welcome to participate as drivers if pushed by a parent or responsible adult. All teams must be registered and their karts inspected for safety on arrival.
Phillipa Watson, Head of Fundraising at Dorothy House Hospice Care said:“ We’ re delighted to be launching this new family event for Bath in partnership with some great local businesses. We’ re looking forward to bringing together the Bath community for a celebratory day out in July, as well as raising vital funds to help the Hospice care for more patients, families and carers.”
Zac Fennell, Director at BA1 Hair added:“ This event is more about fun than the‘ need for speed’, so no crazy spills and thrills, but plenty of food, drink, fancy dress and general silliness! I’ m looking forward to seeing who is brave enough to take on the challenge.”
