The Business Exchange Bath & Somerset Issue 2: Winter 2016/17 | Page 3

CONTENTS NOTE FROM THE EDITOR INSIDE THIS EDITION Welcome to the Winter edition of The Business Exchange Bath & Somerset. 2016 has been a stellar year for The Business Exchange, celebrating three years of our Swindon & Wiltshire magazine and launching our Bath & Somerset offering in September. We couldn’t have asked for a better response to our first magazine and can’t wait to build on the progress we’ve made in 2016. Being Bath’s only business-tobusiness publication is an exciting prospect and there’s lots of room for growth in 2017 and beyond. To celebrate our launch we hosted a party at Bath’s Assembly Rooms. 220 movers and shakers from across the region attended and the night had a real buzz about it. Turn to page 32 to see our photo gallery from the night. In 2017 we look to continually improve and develop our print and online offering, launching new initiatives that make a real difference to the local business community. Please get in touch if you have any ideas or projects you would like us to support you with. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our readers and advertisers for your support so far. Special thanks go to our dedicated team of freelancers and contributors, your hard work never goes unnoticed. Wishing you a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2017. 4 BUSINESS NEWS A round-up of the latest top stories 8 FINANCE We find out what’s going on in the world of finance 10 AUTO ENROLMENT TBE features editor Fiona Scott finds out what you need to know 13 POSITIVE BUSINESS Latest news and appeals from the not-for-profit sector 16 HUMAN RESOURCES Employee Engagement, how to get it right 18 INDIE BUSINESS Profiling Bath’s young entrepreneurs and family run businesses 20 CREATIVE THINKING The latest from Bath’s creative sector 22 TECHNOLOGY Technological trends for 2017 from ojo solutions 28 COMMERCIAL PROPERTY A business barometer of the current market conditions in Bath 30 REVVED UP Geoff Maxted reviews the BMW 5 Series 31 IN PROFILE Bill Vasilieff, CEO of Novia 32 CONNECT Networking events in and around Bath SPRING EDITION 2017: SPECIAL FEATURES Anita Jaynes Editor: Anita Jaynes E: [email protected] T: 01225 300043 Web: www.tbebathandsomerset.co.uk Cover Image: Ben Carey Special Features: Fiona Scott www.fionascottmediaconsultancy.co.uk Motoring: Geoff Maxted www.drivewrite.co.uk Social media: David Bolton www.tainbrae.co.uk CONSTRUCTION REVIEW Looking at key projects across the South West likely to shape Bath and the surrounding areas in 2017 and beyond.
