Bath and North East Somerset Council has partnered with Women ’ s Work Lab to provide a free 12-week employability course with a guaranteed work placement for mums .
The programme combines face-to-face training that fits around the school run , with a formal work placement at a well-respected regional employer .
The Women ’ s Work Lab is open to mums aged 25 + who are currently receiving benefits and are looking to get back into work . The training programme is designed to build confidence and employability with a number of key elements including :
• Bespoke 1-2-1 career coaching
• Skills training with external partners such as Google
• Digital skills update
• Practical career support – CV writing / interview technique / job searching

• Work placement – 2020 employers included AXA PPP Healthcare , Burges Salmon , Jacobs , DAS Group , University of Bristol , North Bristol NHS Trust and Graham & Green .
Applications for the May programme are open now with four weeks of training from 6th May- 28th May . The course is set to take place 9:30am-1pm on Thursdays and Fridays ( plus home learning ), with further dates planned for June and July . The Employment and Skills Pod is a newly launched community service delivering a range of employment information , resources , and training programmes using a variety of digital and physical channels to encourage our community to seek and attain work . The Employment and Skills Pod which is part of the Compassionate Community Hub is made up of a strong partnership of leading engagement services in Bath and North East Somerset . The Pod refers the community onto key organisations to provide training and upskilling opportunities , not only for people who have been made redundant due to Covid-19 , but also those that are short or long term unemployed , require upskilling in order to keep their jobs , or are looking to change careers .
The Pod ' s Partnership Organisations include :
• Clean Slate which offers free support and training to people who want to stretch their budget , find better work or access help online .
• Future Bright which helps local people develop their skills , increase their income and progress in their career . It offers 1:1 careers coaching to plan your next steps and open opportunities for funded training courses and equipment .

• Bath College which provides Adult Community Learning free courses for those who want to improve their chances to find work , support their families or live independently .
• West of England Works - a partnership to help unemployed people age 15 + in the West of England find employment .
• Youth Connect which provides opportunities for young people aged 13- 19 . Support includes youth work , 1-2-1 targeted support and careers advice and guidance .
• Citizens Advice Bath & North East Somerset which provides free , impartial advice and information on a range of issues . It can help with most everyday problems from employment to housing and debt .
Bath and North East Somerset residents can ring 0300 247 0050 to reach the Employment and Skills pod for the opportunity to talk to an advisor to assess individual digital and job seeking barriers . Advisors are currently available Mondays and Wednesdays with hours to be extended in the summer .
