One local firm which embraced the challenge is Mintivo . The Managed IT Provider works across the South West , helping ambitious organisations with their IT requirements . Being a technology partner with many of the world ’ s leading software providers , such as Microsoft , it ’ s important that the team practice what they preach and understand the full benefits of the tools on offer . But they ’ ve gone the extra mile in 2020 by embracing technology in new and exciting ways to help them thrive whilst working from home .
THE BORED ROOM Mark Adams , Director , said , “ Using Microsoft 365 we created our virtual staff room , the Bored Room . We use it for our daily briefing sessions , company updates , ticket assignments and more . It ’ s become a fun way to connect with the broader team and keep an open line of communication among everyone . The best part about it is that it is always-on , or rather online , and it is open to the entire team throughout the day . The Bored Room is used as the new hangout spot where we can engage in ‘ office banter ’ and connect with team members , but most importantly we don ’ t have to work alone .”
THE VIRTUAL PUB As well as the Bored Room , the Mintivo team created their own virtual pub during lockdown , The Minchester . All staff now congregate on a Friday evening for afterwork drinks and socialising .
It ’ s clear that Mintivo puts employees first , and the efforts have not gone unnoticed . At the end of 2019 the company was recognised by the national Investors in People Award scheme in the hotly contested Employee Engagement Award category , and at the beginning of 2020 it won the Best Place to Work Award at the Chippenham Business Awards .

Chris Gough , Managing Director , said , “ We work hard to ensure culture , people and development are at the core of our business . Our ethos is that happy and committed staff will deliver the excellent IT support we pride ourselves on .”
AWARD RECOGNITION Mintivo is also keen to grow its own talent . Employee Ed Goodall recently won the Future Tech Superstar Award at the regional Techies awards .
Chris Gough said , “ I think what made Ed stand out was just how much he has achieved at such a young age . He holds a senior technical position at Mintivo , at only 20 years old ! This just goes to show how clever , dedicated and passionate he is about his career . His breadth and depth of technical knowledge is absolutely incredible . It ’ s a huge boost to the team to win and especially to Ed during what has been a very busy , but different and challenging year .”
GROWING THE TEAM IN 2021 Mark Adams added , “ I don ’ t know what 2021 is going to look like with Covid , but we will keep doing what we are doing and will look after ourselves and our customers . Everything we achieve and every milestone we hit is down to the amazing staff we have at team Mintivo . Without them , Mintivo would be just a boring , bog standard , run of the mill service provider . Thank goodness we ’ re not like that ! Culture matters .”
Projects , consultancy and managed IT support contracts have been flying out the door at Mintivo in the last few months and the business has seen its biggest uptake of project work since day one . The firm ’ s growth has created a need to recruit and they are currently looking for an IT support engineer . Job perks include development , training and unlimited paid holiday .
