creative sector and initiatives that listeners
can get involved in. The Business Support
hour with James Godman offers guidance
for local businesses, world and national
business news, lockdown updates from
around the world and details of the latest
grants and funding available.
BA1 Radio broadcasts local news every
hour, alongside an advert for B&NES 3SG
Compassionate Communities Scheme to
inform listeners of ways they can help others
or find the support they need. They have
made slots available for local charities to
share their services and signpost listeners
to the help available. Their most recent is for
the Southside Family Project to help them
source stationary that they can donate to
local families who have children at home.
Station Manager Luke Nix said, “Local
radio is more relevant than ever right now
3SG
3SG is a thriving, independent membership
network supporting the charity, social
enterprise, faith and voluntary sector
operating in Bath and North East Somerset.
The aim of the Bath-based charity is to raise
the profile of our members, provide oneto-one
support and give them a chance to
influence local strategic decision making.
Over the last three weeks the Council,
in partnership with Virgin Care, and 3SG
have worked around the clock to set up the
Compassionate Community Hub reaching
out to the vulnerable and isolated, providing
help with food deliveries, medicine, urgent
housing, mental health and wellbeing and
money matters.
To date the hub has received over 2,500
calls from people across Bath and North
East Somerset. The calls to date have
been wide ranging, from finding supported
housing and food for somebody selfisolating
in a car to another person wanting
help to trim their hedge!
Volunteers have completed 500 tasks
to support the most vulnerable. Examples
include food shopping, collection of
medicines and befriending calls.
90 per cent of volunteers are carrying
out repeat services for people they have
established a relationship with. The benefit
being that people can continue to access
and giving Bathonians a voice feels extremely
important.”

support from a trusted neighbour and a safe
and secure payment process.
James Carlin, Director of 3SG, said, “The
team are incredibly proud of the flexibility,
dedication and compassion of colleagues
within partner organisations, and the
volunteers that have enabled this service
to be set up so quickly. It is one of the first
nationally to provide a joined up solution
that reaches out to the most vulnerable.”
