BUSINESS NEWS HAWKER JOINERY CELEBRATES CENTENARY Bath’s Hawker Joinery recently celebrated 100 years of making bespoke joinery with a special 1920s themed dinner and dance attended by the Mayor of Bath at the city’s Pump Room. Originally founded by Frederick William Hawker in 1919, the company began life by making crane boxes for the globally renowned Bath company Stothert and Pitt. Frederick established a base at the rear of his home in Northend, Batheaston that evolved into 20,000+ sq ft of workshops. Through four family generations Hawker Joinery grew to become one of the best-known heritage businesses. It has cared for many properties from Windsor Castle to the Royal Crescent in Bath and lots in between. The centenary dinner was attended by 17 direct descendants of FW Hawker and Colin Frayling, the great grandson of the founder, regaled the 150 strong attendees with stories of the first 100 years. Mitchell Thomas, commercial director, proposed a toast thanking all of the present 25 staff, customers and suppliers. Mitchell Thomas said,“We are all very proud to work for a company with such a fantastic pedigree, it certainly gives us a valuable platform of knowledge and contacts on which to provide our joinery services in the modern world. We very much look forward to continuing to play our part in preserving the heritage buildings of yesteryear whilst contributing to the great buildings of the future.” Hawker Joinery has recently benefitted from significant investment that sees it operate from a brand new Frome- based workshop. It will also be opening a new sales and display office on Queens Parade Place, Bath, in March this year. As a result, the company is very much looking forward to the next 100 years and further building on Frederick’s legacy. @Hawker_Joinery For more info: www.hawker-joinery.co.uk Angela and Mike Langbridge James Horsfall and Amy Wilkinson James Eades and Rebecca Land, Systemagic Penny Gibson with Mayor of Bath Councillor Patrick Anketell-Jones Mike Hopkins and Sam Smart, Stonewood Builders 10 THE BUSINESS EXCHANGE 2019 Colin Frayling Alastair Gibson and Paul Crossley (Cllr)
