POSITIVE BUSINESS
NEW CHARITY CONFERENCE
LAUNCHES IN BATH
The Future of the Third Sector
The inaugural South West Charity Conference is being
held at Bath’s Apex Hotel on Thursday 7th February 2019.
The event is a Business Exchange initiative
designed to support local charities and third sector
organisations, helping them look at new ways to grow
and diversify. The key theme of the conference will be
the future of the third sector.
Key subjects for the day include alternative
funding streams, investment strategies, adapting
donation platforms to a cashless society and brand
creation to drive engagement and loyalty.
Event organiser Anita Jaynes said: “Having
worked in the charity sector, corporate social
responsibility has always been close to my heart.
Since launching The Business Exchange I have
always supported local charities giving them free
space in my publications, in print and online, to talk
about their causes and appeals. I also encourage
other businesses to send in their stories, promoting
their fundraising activities and creative ways of giving
back.
“We have partnered with some of the region’s
largest and most impactful firms to bring together
this first for Bath and the South West. Charity and
third sector specialists Stone King LLP, Milsted
Langdon LLP, Novia Financial - one of Bath’s biggest
givers and Fidelius Group are partnering to deliver
this special one-off event.”
Henry Cobbe, Head of Copia Capital Management,
part of Novia Financial will discuss the importance of
investment strategy in the third sector. Pippa Russell,
Novia Financial and trustee of Novia Foundation
said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be part of this
exciting charity conference helping to support the
growth of local charities in Bath and the South West.
With a fantastic line up of speakers announced
including such diverse topics as branding support
and investment strategy; we are very much looking
forward to being involved.”
Heading up the Alternative Funding Streams
discussion is Jim Grant, CEO, of wealth management
firm Fidelius Group. Jim said: “Financial giving to
charities is both valuable and essential, but not
every company is able to provide financial support,
and even those that are seem reluctant to commit
to a reliable flow of donations. This can present
significant challenges to those smaller charities
whose purpose demands regular outflows of cash.
“A little lateral thinking reveals other ways in
which companies can support charities. Fidelius
has committed to support The Genesis Trust in Bath
with financial donations, when possible, but also
employing different channels. Discover the benefits
of alternative funding from both a corporate and
charity perspective.”
Stone King’s Tim Rutherford will be facilitating
a discussion on supporting charity trustees in their
engagement with millennials. Stone King LLP was
a choice partner for the charity conference as it
continues to be a top tier law firm as recognised in
respected legal guides Chambers, the Legal 500
and The Times Best Law firms. Its “excellence” in
education law was also recognised by Chambers and
the Legal 500.
Partner, Tim Rutherford, is head of the charity
and social enterprise sector for the firm. Tim has
been recognised by the Legal 500 for his work in
the sector and was noted as one of the two leading
individuals advising charities in the South West. Tim
commented: “Stone King is recognised nationally, as
well as having a strong presence in the South West,
for its excellence in advising charities and voluntary
sector organisations, and is ranked as one of the
top 3 law firms in this area in the Chambers and the
Legal 500 directories. We are therefore delighted
to take part in this conference and look forward to
meeting delegates from across this vibrant sector.”
The Speakers
“It will be an exciting and
innovative event for our charity
and not-for-profit sector”
Representing accountancy firm Milsted Langdon
is Gill Freeman, partner and head of charity and
not-for-profit sector. Gill has been advising charities

clients and contacts. As well as hearing from an
