CREATIVE THINKING
BATH CREATIVE’S COLLABORATE
TO PRODUCE MADE IN BATH BOOK
Bath is a city that’s famous for many things: hot springs, Roman
heritage, the Royal Crescent and Jane Austen. Bath has a long
history of making, it’s a city that’s built its reputation on its long
and illustrious past. But that only tells half the story.
Bubbling under the surface there’s another
world at work; a culture of creativity and
craftsmanship, of movers and makers.
Made in Bath is a new book about the
dynamic spirit of makers in Bath, sharing
the stories of 18 modern-day creatives,
craftspeople, engineers and innovators. It’s
the result of a collaboration between brand
and design agency, Mytton Williams and
Opal Print. Made in Bath is a snapshot of
Bath as it is now – not just a UNESCO-listed
heritage site, but a hotbed of ideas and
ceaseless energy, with a culture of creativity
and craftsmanship.
The book showcases and celebrates
a diverse range of local people and
businesses – from one-person studios to
large corporates – operating around the
world, all with a shared philosophy of doing
things well, being passionate and creative
and collaborating with attention to detail and
quality. Almost every organisation included
had a national and/or international reach,
working with clients around the world.
They all enjoy the balance and vitality of
Bath, but look beyond the city itself when
it comes to their clients, influences and
inspiration. Featuring organisations like,
Grant Associates, Moulton Bicycles, Rotork,
Format Engineers, Bertinet Bakery and Real
World Studios, it was never intended to be a
definitive list, but more of an overview of the
diversity and creativity that’s all around Bath.
Keith Lunt, managing director of Opal
Print said: “Fuelled by a love of fine print,
beautiful paper, great design and engaging
content, the Made in Bath project started
with a discussion around how to share this
passion with others. And so developed to
a collaboration with Mytton Williams. The
resulting showcase of how we do what we
do, alongside the stories of 18 other local
makers, is a stunning case bound book
bringing together fascinating, relevant and
engaging content from a collective of like-
minded people.”
Bob Mytton, creative director at Mytton
Williams added:“As seasoned makers
ourselves, we thought the book itself would
make an interesting investigation into the
nature of making things, as well as an
exploration of how others do it. It was an
absolute pleasure to meet and talk to these
talented people who bring joy and genuine
passion to their work and their customers.”
The book is available from all good
bookshops and on Amazon.
