FIRST YEAR AND JD COMPETITIONS Entries open for UNSW Primus Gradus Essay Competition! This new competition represents an opportunity exclusively for first-years to challenge themselves beyond the curriculum. Students are to write a legal essay on the theme of law reform. Students are free to write on any legal topic they choose! However, with the theme in mind, it would be great if you could write about recent law reforms in Australia and evaluate them. Some sample essay topics: Racial Discrimination Act: Is section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975(Cth) in its current form an appropriate restriction on freedom of speech? Internet Piracy: "The best way to combat piracy is to give consumers what they want." Ministerial Corruption and Political Donations: It is been suggested that New South Wales should adopt a model of full public funding for politicians, political parties and election campaigns. Do you agree? Students are highly encouraged to check out http://www.unswlawsoc.org/essaytopics for ideas! For more information, go to: http://www.unswlawsoc.org/essaycomp/ Special JD Mooting Round A special single-round moot for JD students will take place in Week 2 of Semester 2. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain mooting experience, without formally having to enter the Senior Mooting Competition.
