The Brief Week 1 Semester 2 | Page 2

PRESIDENTS’ WELCOME Welcome back to Semester 2, 2014 – in particular all of our new students who have started their law degrees this semester. We look forward to seeing everyone return to the UNSW Law Building! We have been working very hard with our LawSoc team over the mid-year break to ensure that we begin semester 2 with a bang! If you haven’t already purchased a ticket to our Annual Law Ball – be sure to snatch one up soon, as it promises to be a night to remember! We’ve got a lot of great initiatives for semester 2, from a variety of exciting events coming out of our Activities Portfolio to a few new community engagement projects and events arising from our Social Justice Portfolio. We can guarantee there is a project, publication, initiative or event for every law student to sign up to this semester! In particular, we strongly encourage our members to register their attendance for the intervarsity Social Justice Conference which will be co-hosted by the UNSW Law Society and the Sydney University Law Society; and be sure to get involved with our Publications this semester and have your opinions and voice heard on our UNSW Law Society Blog – Poetic Justice. If you’re a new JD student, be sure to sign up here for the Intermediate Mooting competition which is run exclusively for JD students who were unable to compete in semester 1 and also be sure to sign up to LawPlus Peer Mentoring by sending a brief expression of interest to the LawPlus coordinators at: [email protected]. These are all just some of the ways you can get involved this semester – but there are also many more exciting projects and initiatives that will commence this semester, so stay tuned for them! We wish everyone the very best for the upcoming semester. If you have any questions, or want to get more involved with the UNSW Law Society, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. Best Wishes, Marie Iskander & Benjamin Heenan Co-Presidents | UNSW Law Society 2014 2
