CROSS CURRICULAR LANGUAGE LEARNING.

foreign language used in other subject classes

thematic units

.There are various ways, the most remarkable are the following:

1. the foreign language provides elements to be used in other subject classes. For example, during the bilateral meeting with Poland, students made a research in English about job opportunities for young people in our region and in the whole country. The results of the research were then used in a maths lesson dealing with diagrams and charts.

2. teaching the disciplines in the target language (CLIL)

3. creating a thematic unit.

When working with cross-curricular projects, integrating languages with other subjects helps students improve their English since they will use the language to receive and produce real and meaningful messages instead of just words and structures for their own sake. As a matter of fact students should realize that a language has a purpose and it is something to use not just to learn in a language class. What can we do to encourage integration between English and the other subjects?
