Yesterday, 25th of September, Norway held a referendum, where 53.5 pe-rcent of the po-pulation said no to participa-te in the European Community.
The people who wanted to join EC and the people, who did not want to join EC, said that the consequences for Norway would be
disastrous if the other side won. The growth of the Norwegian economy would continue, Norway had to trade with the most important trading partners, such as Great Britain and West Germany.
The people who did not want to join European Community believed that a Norwegian membership could cause that the Norwegian farmers and fishermen had to close down their business because, they would lose in the competition with people who preferred to buy cheaper goods from other EC countries.
