Italian science points the way



Under Pressure

Evangelista Torricelli, the sensational Italian physicist and mathematician, has just invented the barometer, this is in addition to his work optics and work on the method of indivisibles. In a sensational interview he claimed that understanding pressure could give clues in predicting the weather.

Cassini has pioneered work in the fields of astronomy and engineering, discovering four satellites of the planet Saturn and noting the division of the rings of Saturn; the so called Cassini Division shows that the planet has a ring system. A spokesman from his lab in Savoy has revealed that he is now working on a project creating a topographic map of France.
