Pediatric Dentistry Chief Residents Named NNOHA Awards Outstanding Clinician
Congratulations to the new NYU Langone Hospitals –
Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program Chief
Residents for 2017! Each year, individuals from each of the
13 program sites are selected based on their performance,
leadership potential, and written personal statement. Congratulations to Dr. Domenic Caluori
who won the Outstanding Clinician Award
at the 2017 National Network for Oral
Health Access (NNOHA) Conference.
Dr. Caluori is the Chief Dental Officer at
Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics in
Santa Barbara, CA and one of our faculty at
NYU Langone Dental.

School Health Program was recently
highlighted at the NYSBHA Conference.
Dr. Lynn Gargano, Director of the Dental
School Health Program and alumna of the
GPR and Pediatric Dentistry Programs
at NYU Langone Hospitals Postdoctoral Dental Residency
Program, presented at the New York School-Based Health
Alliance Annual Conference on October 27, 2017 on the
success of the NYU Langone Hospitals – Dental School
Health Program.

Dr. Jennifer Logigian, a 2017 Pediatric Dentistry graduate,
who completed her residency in Honolulu, HI, had her
research paper, “Prevalence of Early Childhood Caries Among
Children at Two Community Health Centers in Hawaii,”
published in the peer reviewed Journal of Dentistry & Oral
Disorders (Volume 3 Issue 5 – 2017).

Dr. Kevin Walker, a 2015 Orofacial
Pain graduate and 2017 Orthodontics
graduate, had a version of his thesis
published in the October 2017 issue
of Orthodontic Products, titled “Is
Ultraviolet Light the Future? Sterilization
in the Orthodontic Office of Tomorrow.”

Drs. Babak Bina,
General Practice Residency
Program Director, and
Marc Kunin, Endodontic
Program Associate Director,
presented to the New York
Academy of General Dentistry (NYSAGD) May 4, 2017. The
paper, entitled, “True Allergy to Amide Local Anesthetics: A
Review and Case Presentation” was accepted for publication.

Dr. Shreekrishna Akilesh, Pediatric
Dentistry Associate Program Director
(Arizona), presented to the American
Dental Association Council on the topic
of Advocacy for Access and Prevention,
highlighting numerous achievements of the
residency program on July, 24, 2017.
Congratulations to Dr. Sanna Charlie,
AEGD PGY1 resident in CA, who will have
a n article published in the Feb 2018 issue
of Dentistry Today. Her article, “A Minimally
Invasive Approach for Restoring Tetracycline
Stained, Highly Worn Anterior Maxillary
Dentition,” talks about the minimally invasive smile makeover
she completed while in residency.

Dr. Robert Bowe, Director of Oral
Pathology, NYU Langone Hospitals –
Brooklyn, presented on the topic of oral
cancer during Oral Cancer Awareness
Month in April to more than 50 older
adults at the Sunset Park Neighborhood
Center on 4th Avenue. The presentation was designed to
raise awareness among Sunset Park Family Health Center
members about the risks, recognition and treatment of
cancers that develop in the tissues of the mouth and throat.

Dr. Martin Lieberman, Vice President
of Graduate Dental Education, has
presented two years in a row at the
National Network for Oral Health
Access (NNOHA) Annual Conference.
Both years he presented as part of a
panel of experts at the “Digging Deeper Sessions." In
2016, his topic was “Using Health Center Dashboards
for Tracking Measurement and Improvement.” In 2017,
in addition to the Digging Deeper Sessions, he presented
on “Developing, Implementing, and Improving a School-
Based Sealant Program.”

Dr. Omar Suarez, Orofacial Pain
Program Director, taught a course entitled
“Oral Rheumatology – How to Proceed
in Practice” in Teresina, Piaui, Brazil in
May 2017. The course was offered as part
of The Scientific Commission of the 7th
Odontology International Congress of Piaui and organized
by the Brazilian Association of Odontology with other
Commissions and the Presidency of Congresses.
