NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Programs welcomed the following individuals to our team in 2020
Dr . Shabnam Seyedzadeh Sabounchi Research Program Manager
Shabnam Seyedzadeh Sabounchi , DDS , PhD joined NYU Langone Dental Medicine as its Research Program Manager in March 2020 . She is trained as a general dentist and practiced for over a decade while remaining active in oral health research . Dr . Sabounchi earned two PhDs , the first in Dental Public Health from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences , Tehran , Iran , and the second in Community Research and Action from the State University of New York at Binghamton , Binghamton , NY , where in 2018 she was awarded the Graduate Student Excellence Award for Excellence in Research . Her research aims to improve social justice and the well-being of vulnerable populations . Viewing oral health as an integral part of general health , she has been involved in several transdisciplinary research projects , collaborating with teams of researchers from diverse scientific fields . Her recent research focused on opioid use and pain management for non-traumatic dental-related visits to emergency departments . Dr . Sabounchi is the author of 23 peer-reviewed articles .

Dr . Sujatha Sivaraman Associate Director , Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry
Dr . Sivaraman joined NYU Langone Dental Medicine in March 2020 as the Associate Director of the Pediatric Dentistry site affiliated with Compass Health Network in Columbia , MO . She received her DMD from Boston University and completed a fellowship program at Ohio State before becoming a pediatric dentistry resident with NYU Langone Dental Medicine at their Holyoke , MA site . She graduated in June , 2012 from NYU Langone Dental Medicine and then joined Family Health Center ( Compass Health ) as their first pediatric dentist in the fall of 2012 . Compass Health provides specialist care for the underserved within a 200-mile radius . She found that they were unable to meet the need for access . With the support of leadership at her health center , she reconnected with NYU Langone Dental Medicine Pediatric Dentistry Program leaders , Drs . Daniel Kane and David Okuji . In 2020 , Compass Health Network in Columbia , MO became the newest postdoctoral residency training site for NYU Langone Dental Medicine ’ s Pediatric Dentistry Program and Dr . Sivaraman was promoted to Associate Director .

Dr . Raffi Miller Associate Director , Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry
Raffi Miller , DMD is a board-certified pediatric dentist and the newest associate director for the NYU Langone Dental Medicine Pediatric Dentistry site in Massachusetts . He graduated from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2009 and completed his pediatric residency at Boston University in 2011 . While working in private practice throughout his career , Dr . Miller has always stayed connected to teaching and public health dentistry . He served as an associate clinical instructor at Boston University from 2011-2015 before becoming Clinical Director and then Director of the Forsyth Kids Program , a non-profit school based program from 2015-2020 . His passion for teaching led to his current position as Associate Director for NYU Langone Dental Medicine in addition to his role as Associate Chief Dental Program Officer at the Holyoke Health Center .
