NEW DENTAL DIRECTOR NAMED AT MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICE
DR . KENNETH REED NAMED DENTIST OF THE YEAR
DR . ASHLEY POPEJOY RECEIVES “ 10 UNDER 10 AWARD ”
Dr . Matthew Horan joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Office of Oral Health as their Dental Director . Dr . Horan brings over ten years of experience providing clinical dental care as well as managing dental clinics and oral health programs in both the public and private setting . He will continue to assume the role of Executive Director of Dental Services at Harbor Health Services , Inc ., an affiliate training site for NYU Langone Dental Medicine ’ s AEGD Program , and will work as the MDPH Dental Director on a part-time basis . Prior to his work at Harbor Health , Dr . Horan held positions at DotHouse Health , Boston Public Health Commission , and Codman Square Community Health Center . As Dental Director of the Office of Oral Health , he will help to develop a strategic vision for the office as well as provide guidance and consultation to the development , implementation , and improvement of statewide oral health prevention , policy , and surveillance activities .
Congratulations to Dr . Kenneth Reed , NYU Langone Dental Medicine Dental Anesthesiology ( DA ) alumnus ' 13 and current faculty member . Dr . Reed received the Oregon Academy of General Dentistry ’ s 2020 Dentist of the Year award . This is the first time in the history of this award that it has been given to a specialist instead of a general dentist . Dr . Reed provides continuing education to NYU Langone Dental Medicine DA , Pediatric Dentistry , AEGD , and GPR residents .

Congratulations to Dr . Ashley Popejoy , recipient of one of the American Dental Association ' s ( ADA ) “ 10 Under 10 Awards .” The “ 10 Under 10 Award " recognizes the ‘ unsung heroes ’ of the profession — honoring dentists for their work in advocacy , leadership , and philanthropy , education . Dr . Ashley Popejoy , of Nixa , Missouri is the director of pediatric dentistry at the Jordan Valley Community Health Center in Springfield , Missouri , an affiliate of NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Programs . Dr . Popejoy provides dental services to those from underserved backgrounds , manages staff , develops training protocols and serves as a liaison and mentor . Dr . Popejoy is also the clinical director of Special Smiles for the Special Olympics of Missouri .

DR . HORACE GRIFFITH ACCEPTED INTO ADA IDL PROGRAM
Congratulations to Dr . Horace Griffith , AEGD Associate Director , US Virgin Islands , who was accepted into the American Dental Association ' s Institute for Diversity in Leadership Program ( IDL ). IDL is designed to enhance the leadership skills of dentists who belong to racial , ethnic , and / or gender backgrounds that have been traditionally underrepresented in leadership roles .
