NEWLY AWARDED GRANTS
With the considerable support of NYU Langone Dental Medicine leaders and colleagues , the Research Office is continuously engaged in resident and faculty research . Together with our institutional , clinical , and community partners , we have made tremendous strides in fulfilling our mission to positively impact patient and population health , notwithstanding the unprecedented global challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic . Three newly funded Health Resources and Services Administration ( HRSA ) grants provide meaningful opportunities for dental residents and faculty to engage in training opportunities and pilot studies with researchers and clinicians to promote oral health equity and test models of integrated health care delivery across the life course .

Supplement to Postdoctoral Training in General , Pediatric and Public Health Dentistry and Dental Hygiene ( HRSA ): This 1-year award is intended to enhance community experiences of general and pediatric dental residents with more consistency between learners , identify strategies to disseminate promising / best practices , including those for tele-dentistry , and support more consistent evaluation of teaching / learning . NYU Langone Dental Medicine is partnering with the Department of Community-based Programs and the Behavioral Health ( BH ) Program at Family Health Centers at NYU Langone and involving dental residents and faculty in Brooklyn , NY to accomplish the following 3 objectives : 1 ) plan , implement , and evaluate a collaborative screening and referral project on oral health needs and the social determinants of health via the BH Program tele-health platform ;
2 ) develop , implement , and evaluate a community-based sugar-sweetened beverage ( SSB ) and oral health educational campaign for parents / guardians of pre-school aged children ; and 3 ) enhance the clinical training and community-based educational experiences of general and pediatric dental residents .
Ryan White Part F , Dental Reimbursement Program ( HRSA ): In close collaboration with 3 of our training partners ( Grady Health System , Chase-Brexton , and Family Health Centers at NYU Langone ), NYU Langone Dental Medicine was awarded funding to reimburse sites who treat people living with HIV / AIDS ( PLWHA ) for uncompensated dental care . Notably , awarded funds will be directed to all 3 applicants who submitted data to ensure fairness , while also demonstrating the extensive involvement of dental residents and faculty in reducing HIV-related oral health disparities and promoting health equity in their communities . In fact , more than 50 % of dental residents at more than 340 training sites provide direct patient care for a diverse spectrum of PLWHA . Our goal is to build upon this important effort next year and continue to scale it up in future years .
