ADVANCED EDUCATION IN PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY PROGRAM EXPANSION
NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Programs added a new training site at the Family Health Center in Columbia , MO . Program alumna , Sujatha Sivaraman , DMD , MPH , was named it ' s Associate Director in March 2020 . Dr . Sivaraman graduated in June 2012 from the NYU Langone Dental Medicine Pediatric Dentistry training site in MA and joined Family Health Center as their first pediatric dentist in the fall of 2012 . Family Health Center is part of the Compass Health Network , a non-profit health care organization that provides a full continuum of behavioral health services as well as primary and dental health services throughout Missouri . They welcomed their first class of residents on July 1 , 2020 and will onboard 4 new residents when the new academic year begins July 1 , 2021 , equating to 8 residents in total ( 4 PGY1 and 4 PGY2 ).

REIMAGINING THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE DURING THE TIME OF COVID
The Graduate Dental Education team led by Vice President , Dr . Martin Lieberman developed an educational platform to engage dental residents during the COVID-19 lockdown .
THE VIRTUAL DENTAL CURRICULUM WAS OFFERED TO OVER 400 RESIDENTS ACROSS ALL PROGRAMS , FROM 27 US STATES , PUERTO RICO , AND THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS , VIA WEBEX .
Residents logged in daily to participate in 4-hour remote sessions . The Advanced Education in General Dentistry ( AEGD ) provided over 100 hours of continuing education courses and webinars that residents could select from . Additionally , the program offered an Objective Structured Clinical Examination ( OSCE ) in sedation provided by our Dental Anesthesia program faculty . NYU Langone Dental Medicine distinguished faculty and guest speakers spoke on topics ranging from implant supported restorations , endo surgery , stress management , and periodontal surgical treatments . These changes allowed for 223 AEGD residents to complete all of their program requirements and graduate on time .
The Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program enhanced their didactic curriculum with over 80 hours of augmented courses covering topics in dental anesthesia and sedation for pediatric patients , global health , sleep apnea , prevention , medical management of caries as well as multiple OSCE ( Objective Structured Clinical Examination ) courses on pediatric dentistry topics . All 60 PGY2 pediatric dental residents completed all of their program requirements and were able to graduate on time and receive their certificates .
