The Foundry Dental Center typically sees 70-80 patients a day . Late March-April they were seeing , on average , only 6 patients daily , many requiring urgent care . Despite the low patient numbers , the health center was committed to helping these patients and keeping its residents and staff in the clinic . Residents kept a full schedule with didactic and laboratory training in addition to managing their clinic responsibilities .
When dentists in the state were allowed to begin seeing patients for elective procedures , The Foundry Dental Center was ready with new policies and procedures in place . They hired a new staff member to complete COVID-19 symptom checks before patients could enter the facility . They also purchased pagers to give to patients while they waited for their appointment in the parking lot .
“ Like other regions , we were hit hard ,” said Dr . McCracken , “ but what kept me coming to work every day was the attitude and resiliency of our residents and staff . Every one of our team members sacrificed to help others in our community .”
