work can never stop.
3.7Can young people really make a difference in society?
The right to vote: does it have any sense at all?

On March 4 th , Italy was once again summoned to vote for the Parliament, and for many
young people it was the first time at the polls.
A recent survey has revealed that «From North to South, the “Generation zero”, which
in 2018 turns eighteen, in front of its first vote seems disoriented, distracted and
distant. 1 »
This fact is alarming for two reasons: first of all, the “Generation zero” will soon inherit
the Country; secondly, the Italian political crisis – which has bred a strong disillusion
towards politics – could be potentially resolved, if only young people would start
participating in the res pubblica.
Youth has always been synonym of hope and change. By actively performing their
rightful duty, the newly appointed adults could finally put out the problems Italy is trying
to face.
One could object that this generation has shown particular apathy towards the
dynamics of the country, in addition to a general too-naïve-approach to life.
However, considering the disappointing political results of the last years, society should
start to invest in the political education of new generations, and to stimulate them to
participate.
