The theme of the project "Time Travellers" investigated the transformation in lifestyles,
education, expectations and leisure experienced by young people in a life span of 50 years
and contrasted them with the hopes, opportunities and challenges which face our students
today. These experiences were explored through a framework of activities designed to
illustrate the changing nature of the identities held by our young citizens and map out the
evolution from the ethnically homogenous and nationally isolationist paradigm held in the past
towards the multicultural transnational model of citizenship which has emerged in more recent
times.
The project highlighted both our shared European identity and our own unique regional
heritages and through this experience endeavoured young people to embrace a future which
recognises their multifaceted identities, and make them aware of the problems they will have
to face in the future (environmental, social economic, etc) which are common to us all and from
which no one can escape. The parts of the project that were especially well carried out included
successful leadership, a constructive reciprocal collaboration between all partner schools, and
a number of innovative project results that had a positive effect on the organizations, students,
parents and teachers. During their visit to the UK, the participants along with over 100 other
representatives from other European schools involved in Comenius projects organized a
school European parliament in which the students learned about democratic relations,
communications and languages.
