1990 – SLOVENIA's FIRST FREE ELECTIONS
Well, it has finally arrived! The first
parliamentary election in Slovenia
since WW II and the first free
election since 1925. The first
elections in independent Slovenia
are here. Everyone wants to be
part of this new transition and a
witness to the BIRTH OF A NEW
COUNTRY,
SLOVENIA.
Hopefully this will lead to the first
fully democratic elections in two
years' time.
The results of the all-nation
referendum, in which 88.5% of
eligible voters (94.8% of those
participating)
supported
a
sovereign
and
independent
country, were officially declared
on 26th December, 1990. This
day will be remembered by
Slovenians as Independence Day
for years to come.
So, now besides our own
independent country we also have
our national anthem 'Zdravljica' (A
Toast), which was officially
legalized on the 29th March of this
year.
