FLAMES AT SEA
Making food isn't exactly my
strongest suit. I would much rather have
Oliver make the dinner, while I clean the
dishes. But since he is gone all
throughout this week, the responsibility
of all food falls upon me. "honey, could
you ready the table for me?" A mop of
brown hair made itself present in the
kitchen. "Sure" He opened the cabinets
with little difficulty. For a boy his age he
sure was tall, it surprised both me and
Oliver at times.
"Do we need spoons for this or
just forks?" He held both options in his
hands, tapping the hilt of the fork
against the drawer waiting for my
response. "Just take them both, it’s a
little soupier than I had hoped". He
didn’t reply. He just closed the drawer
and took the needed steps towards the
table.
From behind me I could hear
Roy's growling stomach. I turned and
laughed a little at the surprised look on
his face. "The food is just about done,
don’t you worry" he nodded and took
his seat at the table. The warm smell
filled the room as I took the food out of
the oven. He looked excitedly at the
food I set before him on the table. "I
doubt it taste as good as dad's, but I
know it is edible". Roy took the ladle
from my hand and looked at the food
then back to me. "Does it matter?" He
sniffed he air a little before continuing,
"Food is food and I'm sure it tastes good
ether way mom".
Roy loaded his plate like there
was no tomorrow, before handing the
ladle back to me. Excitedly I asked for
his opinion on the food "so?" he lifted his
gaze to meet my own, "How was it?".
Roy sighed and gave me a defeated
look. "I haven't tasted it yet". Ignoring
his tone, I hurriedly made him try some.
He buried his fork deep into the
bobbling hot cheese and dug out a peace
before putting it all in his mouth. Right
away he opened his mouth breathing
out hot air all while fanning his mouth
with his hands. "Damn that’s hot". I
couldn't do anything other than laugh at
the situation. While laughing I poured
some water into his glass, careful not to
spill. He grabbed the glass of water and
drank it all in two large gulps.
With little more caution this time,
he dug out another peace and blew on
it to let it cool down before stuffing it
into his mouth yet again. "So?" He
looked up from the food "I can't feel my
tongue" I rolled my eyes at him and
smirked. "The food Roy. How is it?" He
took another bite and with the food still
in his mouth he answered "It's actually
really good" I scrunched my nose a little
but smiled none the less.
A pleasant conversation was
drowned by the background noise from
the Tv. "Roy could you go turn down
the volume of the Tv?" He wiped his
mouth with a napkin before pushing his
chair back creating a horrendous
screeching noise. Roy gave me an
