The 2016/17 Buildbase FA Vase got underway
at the weekend with eleven of the thirty
Toolstation NCEL teams that took part
booking their places in the Second Qualifying
Round.
There were six all-NCEL ties with Grimsby
Borough providing the biggest shock as the
Division One side finished their game with ten
men but still won at Premier Division outfit
Barton Town Old Boys, 2-0, an own goal and a
Renzie Lobendhan strike settling the tie.
Nathan Keightley's double secured a 2-0 win for
Glasshoughton Welfare at Dronfield Town whilst
Retford United progressed in a roller-coaster

Collieries, 4-2, Adam Wilson, Nicholas Guest,
Dominique Blair and Bill Law on the scoresheet
for the Premier Division side.
Penistone Church were comfortable 5-1 winners
at Division One rivals Winterton Rangers, Scott
Whittington and Andrew Ring making sure of the
victory after first-half goals from Carl Giblin into
his own net, Daniel Joynes and Dale Kelly.
And, in the only Sunday match, Bridlington Town
cantered through to the next stage with a 6-0
home win over Yorkshire Amateur, Joel Sutton
getting a couple of the goals for the Seasiders.
Robert Chipps scored once in each half for
Pickering Town in their 2-1 victory at AFC
Darwen whilst there was also a brace for Elliot
Broughton in Bottesford Town's 7-1 demolition of
hosts Borrowash Victoria.
Adam Lee got the only goal of the game as
Staveley Miners Welfare progressed at the
expense of visitors Cheadle Town, Harrison
Blakey netted twice in Liversedge's 4-1 win at
Thornaby and there were goals for Jamie
Forrester and Christopher Spinks as Hall Road
Rangers's beat hosts West Allotment Celtic, 2-0.
Sadly, there were defeats for Albion Sports,
Armthorpe Welfare, Athersley Recreation, Brigg
Town, Eccleshill United, Garforth Town,
Knaresborough Town, Maltby Main, Parkgate,
Rainworth Miners Welfare, Selby Town, Teversal
and Thackley.
In the Premier Division, Cleethorpes Town have
moved to the top of the table after their 1-1 home
draw with Clipstone, their 35th minute opener
from Matthew Bloomer cancelled out in second
half stoppage time by Ryan Smith on his debut.
And, Worksop Town won the Sandy Lane derby
at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium, beating
hosts Handsworth Parramore by a single goal,
Adam Scott's strike on 31 minutes taking the
points.
Joel Purkiss' goal twenty minutes from time saw
Hallam win 1-0 at Nostell Miners Welfare to
move them to the summit in Division One.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic are up to eighth after
Lee Garside and Bradley Kerr netted in their 2-1
victory at Rossington Main and two goals from
Will Wraith helped Shirebrook Town to a 3-3
home draw with next-to-bottom Westella &
Willerby
