Really, one could say that the book itself is quite the steal, (pun most certainly intended).

Finally, we have to face the cold, hard realities that took place during the Nazis reign, the utterly sickening brutality of the Nazis towars the Jewish population, to those indifferent to their idea of the ideal German - sometimes even harming their own to keep all those who disobey in line. The Book Thief perfectly exemplifies the harsh realities of Nazi Germany's dark past while maintaining a story that is bearable. Like, as was previously mentioned, the fact that many Germans did in-fact try to spare the lives of those wrongfully accused, and how some were indoctrinated to believe in the Fuehrer's morals. There are also the examples of how the Nazis inspired fear in all through the destruction of those who oppose them; by dismantling Jewish businesses, slurs being sprayed on their homes, and straight out being abducted, the Nazis effectively destroyed all those who opposed them. The Book Thief waltzes through many of these delicate topics and deals with them in a proper and professional manner while maintaining an aura of exceptional story telling.

Quite simply, The Book Thief is an incomparable read. Really, one could say that the book itself is quite the steal, (pun most certainly intended). For its outstanding characters, outlandish yet spectacular point of view, and its plethora of lessons to be learnt from that horrid time period, The Book Thief is an absolute must on your list of future reads.
