A new not-for-profit foundation was recently established in Weston to support academic excellence in the West Platte School District. Once it is fully operational, the West Platte Education Foundation will provide funding for educational initiatives for which the use of regular district funds is not appropriate. Examples may include college scholarships for graduating West Platte students, funds to attract professional scholars for classroom and community presentations, memorial funds for special programs, and other initiatives.
The Foundation is currently applying for 501(c)3 not-for-profit status to enable it to accept funds for donations, memberships, memorials, and other purposes. The Foundation is also developing a website. A 15-member Board of Directors has been appointed by the West Platte School Board. The formal mission of the Foundation “is to provide resources to the students, teachers, and staff of the West Platte School District – beyond those that can be provided by the District itself – to promote and encourage the highest standards of educational excellence and achievement.”
