THE BLUE FEATHER

“You said your goal is how many wild mustangs and wild
burros?” Fernándo questioned again, not believing the large
number that he heard from Bardala.
“A nice round number of at least fifty thousand animals.”
As the campfire burned brightly, Fernándo let the large
number sink into his brain, before saying, “It’s going to take a lot
of work...and money. Ricárdo and I can do work, but how are we
going to eat? How are we going to get those trucks from one
place to another...without money?”
“We have connections,” Jonathan told them, while roasting
his hot dog over the coals of the fire. “Tital and Sis are going to
bring him here after a while. You’ll see. He’s a Maya Spirit, but
he can have a body when he’s in this world.”
“Really?” questioned Ricárdo, with a strange look at his
brother.
“It’s all true. You will see,” Viviana spoke up in defense.
“These Spirits are our friends, well...most of them, so far.
There are some bad ones, like Yum Cimil, but he’s in a solid block
of stone. Tital sent him there.”
Fernándo turned to look at Ricárdo before saying, “Am I still
in a coma? I don’t feel...well. Ricárdo…my brain’s on fire...and
you know me, Ricárdo. I don’t do drugs.”
“I’m in the same...dream...as you are...maybe Pablo wrecked
the truck and....”
“Look! The both of you, this is reality. If I pinch you, it will
hurt,” Tital said, trying to focus reality for them. “Yes, we do
some strange things,” Tital continued, as he looked at the faces
of his crew, “some unbelievable things, I admit it, but they are
still real.”
