news is my brother, Todd, and I have been looking for work for
over two months, and just today we got hired on over at Los
Pinos. The Vet needed two men to help him with cattle and
horses. We are good at ranch work. Good luck, bad luck, or no
luck at all, that what my father said. I pulled over when I saw
those two monkeys riding horses, darndest thing I ever saw.
Must have taken you a lot of time to train those critters to ride
horses, they look like they have been riding for years. Wanted to
try and get their minds off of their dog, Blacky. He’s only a year
old next week. He’s a purebred German shepherd, just like the
one you have, only black.”
“Would you mind if I have a look at Blacky?” Tital asked.
“Go ahead, he’s in the back,” the man said looking dejected.
“His back is broken in two places.”
Tital looked into the back of the truck, and there, all in a pile,
was the small, black German shepherd. The man’s daughter was
the lone friend still hoping against reality. She had her hand on
Blacky’s head, slowly stroking him, trying to make his last
moments comfortable.
“How is your puppy doing, Anne?” Tital asked the little gir
