One thing about a Spirit, they never have to worry about
sleep. Zotz had everything ready to go by the time Bardala and
Tital awoke. The Gigantoraptors had been fed some already
dead dinosaur meat, which Zotz happened to find just laying out
on the stone-paved plaza.
“They really liked the day-old meat,” Zotz told Tital when he
had been asked about feeding the beasts.
“How did our captives sleep?” Tital asked.
“Not at all. They believe you are going to sacrifice them to
Kukulcán,” Zotz replied.
“WOW! How did they get that idea in their heads?” Tital
asked.
“Look, I’m a Spirit, not a human mind reader. They think you
will do what they would do, if you were the captive.”
“But I’m not a killer.”
“Tell that to the Gigantoraptors and a few Pterodactyls.”
“That was different. They wanted to eat me and my crew.”
“Shall I release the prisoners?”
“No, I can’t do that, they are dangerous and so are the rest of
the Atoo war party. We are planning to go and capture the rest
of them, today.”
“Kukulcán would be pleased. I could have Ix Chel make you
and the rest of the crew some fancy designed costumes, just in
case you change your mind about sacrifices,” Zotz grinned and
said. “Keep the captives fed and watered. Since we are going to
use the Gigantoraptors to fly up to the north coast, I want you to
send the horses back to be with the Almaya tribe. They can
spend some time teaching more people to ride and take care of
