11 THE BLUE FEATHER “What’s the matter, Brilloso?” Tital asked his faithful dog. All Brilloso could do was tense his muscles, and utter a growl. “GRRRR! GRRR!” If only Tital could see through Brilloso’s eyes, he would have seen that the stone creature on the stela was slowly coming to life. Its large eyes were ever so slowly turning to emeralds, and were glowing a bright green in the light of the campfire. Brilloso cocked his head and wondered why couldn’t Tital see the glow? He went to lie down next to his master, where he could guard Tital as he slept. In the deep darkness of the night, Tital looked up at the millions of stars, and it confirmed to him that God was in His heavens. Tital could only vaguely imagine the immenseness of the Universe. The last thought before Tital drifted off to sleep was not of his troubled life; but of the Negreté children that he was searching for, and their loved ones that were concerned for their welfare. People that he had just met were now all he thought about. They had more trouble in one day than he had in all his life. The green-eyed Mayan Spirit Guardian called Mahucutah watched over Tital as he drifted into a deep slumber.
