Salvete Omnes!
The summer is over, which means it’s the (sort of) beginning of another year of studying the magical language of Latin.
New elections! The start of a new year sparks new leadership. This takes place immediately at the beginning of August, organized by our previous year’s officers. I always look forward to elections because you have the opportunity to meet new members and campaign for your position. It’s thrilling and nerve racking to go around throwing yourself at people just to get a vote, but you got to do what you got to do. We had a great ballot this year and ended up with an amazing selection of student officers. These officers work through problems and
schedule monthly events.
As the president, I am very excited for this year. Since the SCJCL state competition is being held at Dreher again this spring, we have a lot to plan and many ways to get our members involved. I believe this will allow our community to thrive.
While this is still a new process to me and I am still learning the reins of being the president of the club, the community here is amazing and one that cannot be replaced. My goal is to maintain this societas Latina and let it grow.
I will leave you with this quote from Sir John Fortescue’s De Laudibus Legum Angliae: “Semper crescere” (chapter 5), which means “always growing”. This club grows bigger every year and that makes me incredibly happy. I am so lucky to be a part of this small but mighty group. Have a great year!
