left the crowd wanting more .
I am always thrilled with the musical freedom that tribal fusion allows the dancer . The range of musical choices made from Hilde Cannoodt ’ s Flamenco-themed performance to Pixie Fordtears ’ Hip Hop arrangement only seemed to be limited by the dancers ’ creativity and imagination as well as the time allotment .
The Showcase was filled with excellent dancers . One performance I enjoyed was Rin Ajna ’ s hip hop fusion choreography . Her pop-locking isolations were extremely theatrical and her musicality was on point . The performance was truly a fusion medley that pulled from several studies of dance all of which Rin clearly excelled in . Latifah Abdel ’ s performance was also seductively beautiful . Clothed in a simple grey number , her slow Latin-inspired routine was sensuous and gracefully emotional .
Another performer I enjoyed was Evon Wong . Her costume
was gorgeous and made me want to go scouring the internet for it immediately . Her sharp hip drops and tight isolations made her slow , graceful performance gorgeously dramatic .
My favorite was definitely Dipika Vijay . Her combination of Bhangra and Bollywood moves with her ticking and locking isolations was fascinating . Her stage presence and facial expressions complemented her performance perfectly . She brought what felt like nightclub jamming to a highly choreographed performance . It was a very creative , well executed performance that was unique and entertaining in every way possible . I would honestly take any workshop she put on .
The Tribal Massive Bellydance Showcase ™ was an excellent example of how far Tribal Fusion has come . It is a dance form made for people who are not afraid to push the bounds of tradition in the hopes of taking the dance to the next level . I am excited to see the changes the future has in store for this dance form in the years to come .
